Tuesday Evenings, Jan 17th - March 7, 7:00-9:00
Explore different styles of abstract painting, experiment with a variety of painting techniques, and brush up on your art history - all in one class! Each week, explore the life and work of one of these eight important abstract painters, from history or making history now: Hilma af Klint, Sonia Delaunay, Agnes Martin, Yayoi Kusama, Joan Mitchell, Helen Frankenthaler, Janet Sobel and Carmen Herrera. Start each week learning about an artist - their life and influences, the themes that run through their work, their style and personal philosophies of artmaking, and their unique use of colour and line. In the second half of each class, get guidance on techniques, materials, and process so you can create paintings inspired by these powerhouse artists. Whether you’re learning about the mystic beginnings of abstract art with af Klint or the revolutionary nature of polka dots with Kusama, learning to stain like Frankenthaler or drip like Sobel, you will be sure to be inspired by these incredible women of art history.
Class includes extensive notes on each artist, sent to your inbox each week.
Included: GOLDEN acrylic sample kit, available for pickup from Ply Studio.
You will need: Surfaces to paint on (canvas, wooden panel or paper of your choice), acrylic paint, your own brushes, palette knife, palette and water container.
Please note: This class is probably best suited to those with some basic painting skills. Though I will be demonstrating some techniques and answering questions, because of the online and shortened format, it is best if you are comfortable working solo as you will be completing your projects on your own (but if you're a beginner and are feeling adventurous, by all means, feel free to join!) If you're not sure if the class is right for you, feel free to email me at info@andreawarren.ca
