Tuesday evenings, October 12th - November 30th, 2021, 7:00-9:00
Explore different styles of abstract painting, experiment with a variety of painting techniques, and brush up on your art history - all in one class! Each week, explore the life and work of one of these eight important female abstract painters, from history or making history now: Bridget Riley, Princess Fahrelnissa Zeid, Alma Thomas, Elizabeth Murray, Georgiana Houghton, Julie Mehretu, Charmion von Wiegand, and Agnes Pelton. Start each week learning about their techniques and personal philosophies of artmaking, their stylistic and compositional choices, and unique use of colour and line. In the second half of each class, create paintings inspired by these powerhouse artists. Whether you’re exploring hard-edge painting like Bridget or broad strokes of colour like Alma, learning about the influence of comics on Elizabeth or the revolutionary and spirit-inspired work of Georgiana (one of the Western world's first abstract artists!), you will be sure to be inspired by these incredible women artists.
Class includes extensive notes on each artist, sent to your inbox each week.
I will also be on Zoom half an hour before each class (6:30), if anyone would like to join and discuss their work before class.
Cost:
$235 per person (tax and processing fees included) $420 for two people (PAINT PALS SPECIAL) (tax and processing fees included)
Please note:
It is not required to have taken the first Women of Abstraction class to take this class (the first iteration was the same format, just with different artists.)
This class is probably best suited to those with some basic painting skills. Though I will be demonstrating some techniques and answering questions, because of the online and shortened format, it is best if you are comfortable working on your own as you will be completing your projects on your own (but if you're a beginner and are feeling adventurous, by all means, feel free to join!) If you're not sure if the class is right for you, feel free to email me at info@andreawarren.ca
You will need your own materials (canvas/wooden panel, acrylic paints, brushes). For those in Ottawa, a sample kit can be picked up from Andrea in centretown (details will be sent after registration).
